What’s Your Child’s Favorite Movie?
Okay, okay. We all know screen time is bad, but let’s face it, they are going to get it one way or another. I always said I wouldn’t be the parent to park my child in front of a television, but now that I have a kid of my own, I’ve made a few concessions. Sometimes mommy has to get things done, or needs a moment to breathe, or has to poop (yes, it happens, and I would like to do it in peace)! I think each of us has a go to movie or show that our kid loves and can sit in front of for a while and be pacified. My son is only three and a half months old, but he loves the TV! I think the bright colors and the music really intrigue him. In our house, we have two favorites: Little Baby Bum and Moana.
We discovered Little Baby Bum not long after we realized how much our son enjoys music. Since he was a tiny newborn music has really seemed to calm him. (When he was very small, Johnny Cash was a particular favorite!) I immediately loved Little Baby Bum because of its educational value. Each of the episodes are song based and animated with cartoons. Each song is either a nursery rhyme or about a learning principle, like shapes, numbers, personal grooming, holidays, etc. Chunker loves that it is very colorful and sings to him, mommy loves that it is educational, lasts for an hour, and is available on Netflix and YouTube.
Moana is my personal favorite, but my son loves it, as well. The premise is a girl named Moana who is supposed to be the chief of her village goes on an adventure to save not only her island, but the world, by restoring the heart of Te Fiti that Maui, a demigod, stole. Again, I think the music is really what draws him in, but he loves the animation, as well. I walk around singing the soundtrack ALL THE TIME. It’s probably too much. My husband gets so tired of hearing “You’re Welcome“. (Click to watch the YouTube video!) If you don’t know the movie, this song is sang by Maui, a Polynesian demigod, that is voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. It is so catchy and I have so many opportunities to incorporate it into my daily life! We absolutely love this movie and we watch it almost daily. I know it is a favorite among my personal mom friends, as well. This movie is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and Netflix.
