Isn’t it great when a package shows up at your door? You know that it’s coming, but it’s like Christmas any day of the week! Yesterday, Chunker’s very first jumper (aka activity jumper, activity center, jumperoo, exersaucer) arrived! Like any first-time mom, I did tons of research before selecting one. It was important to me to find something that our little one could use for a long time, rather than something he could only use for a few months and then we would have to replace. I also wanted to make sure that there would be room for him to grow in it. He is a big boy already and I didn’t want him to out grow his jumper before he had time to enjoy it! I also wanted it to be developmentally appropriate and help him learn new skills. Last but not least, we needed something that could fold up, if necessary, as we live in a small apartment and space can be at a premium, especially if we have guests over.
With all of these requirements, I took to the internet to see what I could find. Luckily, one of the first jumpers that I stumbled across was the Evenflo Triple Fun Activity Learning Center. I became really excited by the idea that it was made to grow with baby from newborn to 24 months. It features three stages: a play mat for 0 – 4 months, an exersaucer for 4 months to walking age, and the exersaucer transforms into an activity table for continued play from walking age to 24 months. With all of these different options, it means that our Chunker can enjoy this item for quite some time. It also says that it has 11 age appropriate toys to help with important developmental skills and it can fold down to half its height for storage! This item met all my criteria and was super cool looking too, so without delay we ordered it off of Amazon. Luckily, we hadn’t cancelled our prime membership yet, because we were able to get it in three days! (Click the image below to check it out for yourselves!)
This morning we unboxed our new doodad (is this a word everyone uses or just me?) and discovered it comes with about a million pieces and parts. My husband who had just got off a twenty-four hour shift thought that he could quickly put it together and then head to bed. We were a little surprised by how much there was to put together. Luckily, it only took the two of us about 45 minutes to put it together!
Once we got it put together, we put Chunker in it and realized that he is still a bit too small. He is only three and a half months old instead of the recommended four months, but he is above average in height and weight, so we were curious to see how well it would work for him. I’m actually happy that he was a bit small, because it means that he will be able to use it for quite some time before he outgrows it. We ended up wadding up a blanket in front of him so that he could sit up right and then put a flattened pillow beneath his feet so that he could stand flat-footed.
To our delight, he seemed quite happy with the new toy, despite not being able to utilize all of its features just yet. He seemed very intrigued by all of the pretty colors and different toys all over the jumper. We made sure to spin him around so that he could get a good look at everything. He also loved that he could stand in it and watch the TV (as you learned in my last post, that is his absolute favorite activity)! We only left him in it for about ten minutes, just so he could get a good look at everything, but I am excited to see how this serves us in the future and how he will explore all of its different gizmos as he grows!
Update: This post was made on August 4th, it is now September 24th. I am very very happy to report that Chunker absolutely LOVES his exersaucer. He uses it every single day and it is hands down his favorite toy. He can now jump, spin, and play utilizing every toy on the activity tray without any sort of prop of filler for the seat. He loves the music is plays, but I think his favorite item is the rubber dragonfly. It makes a great teether for him. When I first saw it, I wasn’t sure what he would do with it, but it is now his biggest go to! I am so happy that we made this purchase and would absolutely re-buy again and again and again!
